It seems like everywhere you look every technology vendor has a product, every “guru” and every advertiser is trying to relate to or is offering some resources about “artificial intelligence”>
While I don’t doubt at some point, hopefully not in my lifetime, this will become a reality, most of what is talked about now as being artificial intelligence, is not “AI” or “artificial intelligence”.
At best it is software automation.
This is something which we use internally and we help clients with and have done since the business started in 2015.
There are many “gurus” out there saying you can create marketing copy and sales strategy from these tools.
Unfortunately, and if you’ll let me be frank with you, that is the biggest load of BS I’ve ever heard.
No software or machine will ever truly understand human behaviour, what makes us tick, and that is what is needed to create winning marketing strategy, marketing campaigns and sales strategy.
So how about in the technology space?
Well, my recent experience with software products who have raced to add “AI” to their products appear to have broken their core fundamental features, that I expect most people, want to use them for.
One example is Adobe Acrobat.
Most people buy this software so they can easily and effectively edit a PDF document. Well since they say they have added “Generative AI” features, this is now broken and doesn’t work.
I personally have had countless issues with so much so that I have stopped paying for it and won’t be recommending any clients purchase a subscription.
In the cyber security space.
Products like Microsoft 365 and it’s Defender addon product, which Microsoft claim has AI functions, can’t seem to stop a basic malicious scam email from getting through or correctly detecting spam.
One of our larger clients with inhouse IT advised us they started a trial of the newly launched Microsoft CoPilot subscription, but due to numerous bugs with it, they shelved it. Specifically, it had major issues with transcription of English speakers that had an accent that wasn’t US, UK or Australian.
So what should do instead?
- Be aware: Keep abreast of the changes, but don’t buy into the hype.
- Slow down: Don’t be in rush to run out and be an early adopter.
- Consult with a trusted technology partner, like us: This may sound self-serving, and it is to some extent, however make sure you’re talking with someone who will tell it to you straight.
